Hanna Hryhorivna worked for more than 40 years as a nurse in the physiotherapy room of a polyclinic. All her life she helped people go through treatment, supported patients with a kind word and knew well how important attention and a humane attitude are for those who are ill.
Today Hanna Hryhorivna herself needs constant support. She has disability group 2 and serious illnesses: diabetes, a past heart attack, arthritis and significant loss of sight. Because of problems with her legs it is very hard for her to move, and a flat on the fourth floor often becomes a real ordeal. She can by no means always go outside on her own.
Her son, who also has disability group 2, lives with her. The family lives modestly, because the small pension barely covers medicine and the essentials.
Despite all the difficulties, Hanna Hryhorivna has kept extraordinary warmth and kindness. When volunteers come with help, she is always sincerely glad, greets us with a smile and affectionately calls us “girls”. In these simple words are great gratitude, trust and a need for human warmth.
