Olha Opanasivna, a former primary school teacher who devoted 36 years of her life to children. For many generations of pupils she was their first teacher, a person who taught not only reading and writing but also supported, calmed and helped them take their first steps in school life.
Today Olha Opanasivna lives alone in a small flat. Her husband is no longer here, and her children live far away abroad, so she spends most of her time alone.
Because of her advanced age and state of health it is increasingly hard for her to cope with everyday tasks. She has many chronic illnesses, including arthritis and hypertension, so she constantly needs medicine and medical monitoring.
Her pension is very small and barely covers utilities, food and necessary medicines. That is why the support of volunteers has become an important part of life for Olha Opanasivna.
A volunteer from our organisation regularly helps her with groceries and necessary things, because for an elderly person living alone this is not only material support but also a chance to feel attention, care and human warmth.
